Truth, that silent beast,
takes in ambush naïve hearts to feast.
To achieve the Dream,
calcify yourself to the unseen.

Every time I hear dissention that deeply grieves,
pierces through me to a ringing that never leaves.
I can’t mute the shared insistence but with more noise;
find a servicing distraction to help regain my poise

Oh when the culture is on fire
and you pluck at your desires,
do you know you’re undermined?

Oh when your conscience goes awry
and your best says not to try,
when the blindness is designed,
where’s the canary for your mind?

Hope, that sultry coward
demands all and offers up no power.
To attain the Dream,
redefine the victory to the possible and seen.

Every time I try to answer that ringing call,
I seek first my vindication and fail us all.
I can’t bring the transformation I know should be
so I pay the cheapest entrance and wear it on my sleeve.

Oh when your vision bends the cause
and your impatience tilts the odds
do you know you’re undermined?

Oh when your conscience won’t be pleased,
and there’s no killing the disease,
yeah, when dismissal is the goal
where’s the canary for your soul?

Choose your higher power.
Do you know if it buys the lies you like to devour?

Is there a vision past my whim,
between the self-righteous and dim?
My very spirit undermines.

And if canaries could foretell
a poisoning of that pure will,
without a nature redefined
would I heed the warning signs?
